What is a podcast?

A podcast is an audio file—in our case an MP3 file—that you can listen to on your computer or a portable MP3 player such as an iPod®. You probably already have software on your computer that can play MP3 files: Windows Media PlayerTM, QuickTime, iTunesTM, and many, many other free and commercial software programs will play them.

How do I play my podcast?

When you purchase your podcast you will download a zipped file that contains the podcast itself (an MP3 file) and the test used to qualify for your PDU credit (a PDF file). Just save the MP3 file to your computer or portable MP3 player and earn your PDU credit on your schedule, at your convenience. (If you're not sure how to transfer the file to your portable MP3 player, please consult your operating manual.)

What is a Category 3 PDU?

PDUs are the Project Management Institute's measure of time spent in structured project management learning activities. PDUs are required for Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification. ProjectConnections Podcasts are a Category 3 activity, as each podcast has been validated for content and registered with PMI®.

How do I qualify for my PDU credit?

The podcast .zip file contains a 5-question test on the podcast content, in PDF format. Just complete the test and fax it to 413-431-1249. You must get at least 4 of the 5 questions right in order to qualify for PDU credit. You'll be notified of your score within 48 hours, and receive a certificate verifying your PDU within 72 hours. Both the score confirmation and the certificate are sent via email, so please be certain to provide a correct and legible email address on your PDU test.

How do I register my PDU with PMI?

To receive credit for your course participation with PMI, you need to register your PDU. To do this, follow these steps.

  1. Go to the PMI website: http://www.pmi.org. From the blue menu across the top of the screen, select Professional Development & Careers. Choose Certification Program from the drop-down menu.
  2. On the left side of the screen, click on Continuing Certification Requirements in the menu.
  3. On the left side of the screen, in the new sub-menu, click on Claim/View PDU's.
  4. Enter your PMI log in information. Select the PMI PDU Self Report Form button and click LOGIN.
  5. Under Option 3 (Search by REP Number) fill in the Provider ID for the podcast: 1100.
  6. The website should now display the full list of courses offered through Pritchard Management Associates, ProjectConnections' partner in this endeavor. On this list, locate the code associated with the podcast you purchased. The program title will always start with PODU.
  7. Click the Podcast you've received your certificate for, and your PDU is logged and registered with PMI.

I got the podcast from someone else - how can I get my PDU?

In order to issue your PDU credit, we need a completed test with 4 out of 5 correct answers, and a validated order number from ProjectConnections. If you received the podcast from someone else and would like to get your PDU credit, click here to complete an order and enter your name as a qualified PDU podcast participant. Your order validation will be sent to Pritchard Management Associates, and you should receive your PDU certificate within 72 hours after that.
